Man Booker prize-winning author, journalist and tv presenter Howard Jacobson will be the Guest Speaker at British Emunah’s 85th Anniversary Gala Dinner, being held at a central London venue on Monday 29th October 2018.

Howard Jacobson was born in Manchester brought up in Prestwich and was educated at Stand Grammar School in Whitefield then Downing College, Cambridge.

His novel The Mighty Walzer, about a teenage table tennis champion, won the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize for comic writing. It was the first of three of his novels to be longlisted for the Man Booker Prize, along with Who’s Sorry Now and Kalooki Nights (which he described as “the most Jewish novel that has ever been written by anybody, anywhere”). He was awarded the Man Booker Prize for The Finkler Question in 2010, and his novel, J, was also shortlisted for the award in 2014.
The evening will showcase Emunah’s work with Israel’s most vulnerable children focusing particularly on the current situation in Sderot and the Gaza border communities where Emunah is providing vital help for those suffering from PTSD at the Sarah Ronson Counselling Centre.

We will be joined on the night by some of the children from Emunah’s Sarah Herzog Children’s Centre in Afula and will enjoy musical entertainment from the Emunah Choir and a delicious meal catered by Food Story London, who themselves have been shortlisted in the ‘Event Caterer of the Year’ category at the Foodservice Cateys (the ‘Oscars’ equivalent in the food world!).
